“A BACH FAMILY AFFAIR: ORGAN MUSIC BY j.s.bACH & HIS CIRCLE”

Guest Organist James Welch plays music by Bach and those who were important to him: a teacher, his children, his students, his followers, his publisher, and his wife.

The program includes music by Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Johann Christian Bach, Johannn Christian Kittel, Johann Christian Rinck, Johann Georg Schubler, and Anna Magdalena Bach.

The stories that accompany these composers reveal new insights on the importance of Bach’s music.

hANDEL’S l’ALLEGRO, IL PENSEROSO ED IL MODERATO

(performed on April 5 and 6, 2025)

Handel’s masterwork — a dramatic setting of texts inspired by John Milton and William Shakespeare — explores joyful, sad, and “moderate” musings. In English, with featured renowned soprano Amanda Forsythe.

Chamber concert: “great baroque duets”

(performed on March 1 and 2, 2025)

Upper Valley Baroque bass soloist Paul Max Tipton is joined by soprano Paulina Francisco to perform beautiful Baroque duets, accompanied by a virtuosic trio on period instruments — Matt Zucker (gamba), Beth Wenstrom (violin), and Robert Warner (harpsichord).

UVB musicians invite you to celebrate with the majesty of Charpentier’s Te Deum, and the joyous spirit of Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Coronation Anthems. On period instruments, under the direction of Maestro Filippo Ciabatti.

A delicious feast of French chamber music for winds and strings, showcasing Upper Valley Baroque’s outstanding woodwind players, as they tell the story of innovations in wind instrument making in the court of Louis XIV and its impact across Europe.
